Growth and Development Initiatives

While AMG’s Affiliates have independently demonstrated the ability to achieve strong growth, the Company dedicates significant resources to further enhancing their growth and profitability. AMG leverages its scale and expertise to provide its Affiliates with benefits and opportunities that are typically unavailable to boutique firms. AMG offers its Affiliates cost-effective access to the highest quality operational resources, and develops initiatives to expand its Affiliates’ product offerings and distribution capabilities.

Expanding Product Offerings

AMG acts in partnership with its Affiliates to acquire products, teams or firms that leverage an Affiliate’s resources or provide natural extensions to their businesses. For example, AMG has further diversified The Managers Funds’ mutual fund product offerings through its acquisitions of the mutual fund businesses of Smith Breeden Associates, Inc., 40|86 Advisors, Inc. (previously Conseco Capital Management, Inc.), and Fremont Investment Advisors, Inc.  Following these investments, The Managers Funds family has grown to include 37 different load and no-load mutual funds with over $8 billion in assets under management.

Distribution Initiatives

AMG also creates and invests in distribution and operations platforms that benefit all of its Affiliates. In 2004, AMG formed Managers Investment Group (“Managers”), an expanded platform to create, distribute and service mutual fund and separate account products through intermediaries, primarily in segments of the retail marketplace. The Managers platform leverages the product creation, packaging, distribution and account servicing infrastructure and expertise of several AMG businesses to create a single point of contact for more than 75 institutional-quality investment products offered to separate account and mutual fund investors through banks, brokerage firms and other sponsored platforms.

Managers’ team of over 25 sales professionals is distributing single and multi-manager mutual fund and separate account products, as well as a suite of asset allocation solutions, previously distributed by The Managers Funds, Portfolio Services Group and Rorer Asset Management sales forces, including institutional-quality products managed by 15 of AMG’s independent Affiliates. Managers distributes and services investment products on more than 50 investment platforms.
